Gymphobia: New Research Unveils New Zealanders Are Not Exercising Due to Anxiety and Fear of Being Judged
WHAT: Auckland will be the first to benefit from a unique gym therapy class with a live class and webinars – the first of its kind.
Recent research reveals New Zealanders are failing to exercise due to anxiety and fear of being judged over their appearance, ability and attire (research released in April 2015 –full research available on request).
The Curves New Zealand Gym Therapy class aims to help manage Kiwis anxiety and fears of judgement in public exercise environments. The aim is to continue strengthening women and re-introduce them to a healthier lifestyle.
Designed and hosted by Curves New Zealand and Louise Adams, Clinical Psychologist, the gym therapy class will provide participants with:
- Better understanding of why their relationship with exercise is difficult
- Better understanding of how exercise is sold to us and how that affects our self talk
- Stop the cycle of guilt, shame and avoidance around exercise
- Motivate yourself to exercise using values rather than fear and shame
