How to Get Exercise on Vacation
The whole point of a vacation is to get away from it all. But if you’ve been working hard to exercise consistently and follow a healthy eating plan, getting away from your routine can be stressful. Instead of worrying that you won’t be able to continue with your workout plan, put your time to finding good solutions for squeezing in some exercise while you’re away.
Obviously, your vacation needs are unique and everything from destination to travelling companions to duration make a difference when you’re planning workouts. Here are some tips:
Lighten up
When you go on vacation, the most important thing to worry about is the vacation. If you can stick to your workout routine to a T while you’re away, that’s great. But don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Remember that good physical fitness is all about balance, and that means being able to soak up some R & R now and then. A 20-minute walk or 45-minute bike ride a day will be enough to keep your fitness momentum going, and if you can combine a little sightseeing with your exercise, it will be a total win-win.
Make time for scenic vistas
If you’re opting for a road trip this summer, don’t make all your pit stops at gas stations. Get out and stretch your legs in some places where they don’t sell salty or sugary snacks.
Find the nearest greenbelt
Remember when we all relied on the big books of road maps to get around? One benefit of smartphones and electronic navigation systems is that they make it easy to find the nearest park. If you’re doing a road trip, go off the beaten trail and see what a random city offers at their local park. A 20-minute walk around the perimeter will give you fresh eyes for the city, and fresh spirits for your journey. Plus, you’ll stick with your workout plan!
Flying? Skip the terminal tram
If you’ve got the time, walk from one terminal to the other. If you must take a tram, instead of going straight to your gate, take a brisk walk around the terminal to get your blood flowing. There’s no sense sitting at the airport before you have to sit on a flight!
Use the concierge.
Sure, they know the best restaurants in town and how to score sold-out tickets to the ballet. But your hotel concierge can also advise you on healthy eating options, give you directions to the nearest park, and suggest physical activity options that are unique to your destination.
Get one-on-one time
If you’re travelling with the whole family, going for a walk down city streets, on the beach, or in the mountains is a great way to get one-on-one bonding time and stay on track with your fitness relationship goals. Plus, you’ll do some extra sight-seeing at your vacation spot. Don’t forget skin protection on all those walks! Wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock with at least SPF 301 to protect your skin from the sun.
And don’t worry, there’s no need to skip your Curves workout while you’re away. MyCurves On Demand provides Curves fun, fast, and safe workouts 24/7.
